Elecard Introduces Boro 3.0: More Control, Fewer Compromises
We’ve released Elecard Boro 3.0 — a major update to our monitoring system for broadcast and OTT streams. The new version introduces SRT sniffing, adds automation and UI improvements that make everyday monitoring easier.
SRT Monitoring Without an Additional Session
One of the key new features in this release is SRT sniffing. Boro can now analyze a live SRT session between the source and receiver directly from the main stream — without creating an additional connection or adding extra load to the network.
This means you can:
- avoid additional network traffic;
- get data from the actual SRT session used for the broadcast;
- monitor key SRT metrics, including packet loss, retransmissions, latency, and retransmission rate;
- analyze encrypted SRT streams as well.
Previously, monitoring required a separate SRT session. Problems occurring in the main session might not be reproduced in the additional one. Boro can now analyze the main stream directly and show its actual state.
Expanded Support for Input Technologies
Boro 3.0 adds support for new technologies and ways of receiving data:
- NDI — for real-time studio and production networks;
- T2-MI over IP — for digital terrestrial TV, with full de-encapsulation and in-depth structure analysis of embedded MPTS streams;
- Linux Digital TV / DVB API — for using hardware capture cards directly to monitor satellite, terrestrial, and cable signals.
Task Scheduling
For teams that organize broadcasts of matches, concerts, and other live events, we’ve added the ability to schedule the exact start and stop times for monitoring tasks. Schedules can be prepared in Excel and uploaded to Boro. Boro will automatically start monitoring when the broadcast begins and stop once the event is over — with no manual intervention required.
Decryption of OTT Streams
Boro 3.0 supports stream decryption using a fixed key, which can be specified directly or provided through a GPAC document. GPAC documents can also be proxied through an authenticated web server, allowing Boro to monitor QoE parameters for supported encrypted streams.
Greater Accuracy in the Details
Boro 3.0 also brings improvements to the tools used to assess stream quality more precisely:
- Detection of different types of freezes: Boro now alerts you when color bars, black screens, or solid-color frames are detected in the stream.
- Lite decoding mode: this mode analyzes the structure of the elementary stream without fully decoding it, reducing CPU load. It now also takes the impact of packet loss into account and identifies not only the frame where an error occurred, but also other frames dependent on it. This helps assess the impact of data loss more accurately.
- KPI impact analysis: Boro now shows which triggers contribute to a stream’s KPI degradation. Hover over a KPI value on the graph to see the corresponding triggers and the number of defective seconds attributed to each one. This makes it easier to identify the causes of KPI degradation and assess stream quality more precisely.
- IP jitter measurement: we’ve added IP network jitter measurement using three calculation methods, providing more detailed control over transport QoS.
Interface and Usability
- Emergency alerts in the Summary Panel: if a probe or stream unexpectedly disconnects, a corresponding alert will appear on the main dashboard.
- Flexible stream display in LiveView: you can now choose how many streams or tasks to display on a single page and navigate between pages using pagination. Each page has its own URL, which is especially useful for NOCs and control rooms: different pages can be opened on separate screens to monitor a large number of streams simultaneously, without scrolling.
- Language descriptors: information about available audio and subtitle languages is now displayed directly in the interface — particularly useful for monitoring multilingual broadcasts.
- Boro 3.0 is now available in Chinese, making the monitoring interface more accessible and convenient for Chinese-speaking teams.
