DXVA acceleration realized in Elecard MPEG-2 decoder allows to decrease CPU usage and provides substantial performance gains. The new release of Elecard MPEG-2 Video Decoder offers improved hardware acceleration support, which takes advantage of VLD (Variable Length Decoding) mode, that became available on most recent video cards and nettop computers.
DXVA performance
First test sequence (Figure 1):
Performance on different video cards.
System Configuration: Intel Pentium D (Dual Core) running at 2,66 GHz.
For comparison, the last test on the histogram was carried out with NVIDIA 9300M GS on Intel Core Duo P9500 running at 2,53 GHz.
Full HD (1080p) MPEG-2 4:2:0 Video.

Second test sequence (Figure 2):
Performance with two and three streams decoded simultaneously.
System Configuration: Intel Core Duo P9500 running at 2,53 GHz (mobile)
Full HD (1080p) MPEG-2 4:2:0 Video.

Supported video cards
All video cards supporting NVIDIA PureVideo(tm) technology and ATI Avivo(tm), including:
ATi Radeon HD 2xxx series
ATi Radeon HD 3xxx series
ATi Radeon HD 4xxx series
ATi Radeon Xxxx series
ATi Radeon 9xxx series
ATi Radeon 8500
ATi Radeon 7xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2xx series
NVIDIA GeForce 9xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce 8xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce 7xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce 6xxx series
NVIDIA GeForce 5 FX series
NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX series
Intel integrated chips (G45, 965 and possibly many others)
Known issue: ATI Radeon HD 2xxx series supports DXVA decoding of SD resolution streams only, in this case decoder will work in software mode. Rollback to ATI Catalyst 8.12 drivers might help you with this.
Note: If your hardware from this list doesn't work properly in DXVA mode, please contact us.
Technical specifications
The decoder supports all MPEG-2 hardware accelerated decoding modes:
MoComp (minimal mode, IDCT and Variable Length Decoding are performed on CPU)
IDCT (VLD is performed on CPU)
VLD (full hardware accelerated decoding)
Latest changes
Added support for full bitstream decoding (also known as VLD or BitStreamRaw mode). Most recent NVIDIA & ATI video cards support this feature.
Note: Earlier these video cards were showing black screen.
The feature was tested to work with NVIDIA 9300M GS, see the DXVA performance chart for results.
Added support for Intel G45 integrated video
Added support for Intel 965 integrated video
Added support for Intel Atom platform, which supports decoding in DXVA mode up to 4 HD MPEG-2 streams simultaneously.
Note: The feature was tested to work with the latest fit2pc nettop computer.
